After five days, she only exhibited approved behavior – no further reminders from me than those two first times… I can’t send you enough thanks, Marci!

SpiceyDon’t let that innocent sleeping exterior fool you. Spice Girl is a wild cat! Very independent – wonder where she learned that from?!?!??? She and I had an issue that was beyond my knowledge, so I contacted Marci Koski, a cat behaviorist. I know some of you will scoff, but our animals put up with all kinds of behavior from us. It’s no wonder they act out sometimes. Anyway, she gave me a list of suggestions to change Spicey’s behavior. Then she gave me another list to change MY behavior (!). After we got off the phone, Spicey provided two opportunities to reinforce approved behavior within five minutes. I then focused on my behavior improvement. Well, turns out she’s smarter than me. Although I’m still working on only approved behavior for me, after the two sessions mentioned above, Spicey continued with her unacceptable behavior, reducing it each day. After five days, she only exhibited approved behavior – no further reminders from me than those two first times. Is she smarter than me, or what?!??!!! I can’t send you enough thanks, Marci!

Marci was thoughtful, personable and attentive to our girls and our situation…We are glad to have found Marci and are happy for the help she provided to us!

Malindi and ZayaZaya had been eating fabrics around our house since she was a kitten. We had been trying in vain to figure out her behavior and stop her from destroying our clothes and blankets. Then when Zaya and her sister, Malindi got to be 1.5 years old they started hissing at each other, so we really started looking for ways to understand them both and change their behavior.  We found Marci & Feline Behavior Solutions through the Cat’s Meow Luxury Boarding and decided to hire her for a consultation. Marci was thoughtful, personable and attentive to our girls and our situation. Marci gave us a comprehensive plan to work on. We started the plan implementation and followed up with questions that Marci was quite responsive to.  We are happy that we have seen good progress in Malindi and Zaya’s chewing and confrontational behavior based on working with Marci and our continuing our work with the girls. We are glad to have found Marci and are happy for the help she provided to us!

I can’t say enough good things about Marci and Feline Behavior Solutions!!!  I finally have the cat I’ve wanted and knew he could be…now I can only imagine how much more love he and I will share for the rest of his life with me.

HorusMarci has been a LIFE saver.  This applies to not only my rescue Horus, but my relationship with my girlfriend, since he was starting to get between us and sleep.  Mr. Horus (aka Meowsa Pants, for his constant meowing that started the day we picked him up from the adoption agency) is a very vocal and opinionated little dude.  He will tell you EVERY thing that has happened throughout his day and by gosh you better be paying attention, lol!

To be fair, when we picked him up he immediately went back to the Cat Adoption Team before I could take him home and had a BB taken out of his left hip (thankfully more of a flesh wound than an actual damaging one).  At that time they also took out 3 of his 4 canines (they said the teeth were bad from malnutrition).  He would go back a month later and have his last one removed since it wasn’t healing correctly.  So even I would be a bit nerved up and stressed with a new home and massive surgeries.  We gave him time to adjust and all the good kitty juju’s we could muster, BUT it wasn’t enough.

Seven months later and Horus would still pace from one end of the house to the other, meowing loudly and incessantly from window to window throughout the entire night.  They say sleep deprivation kills, and, well, it was about to claim a tabby as its next victim!  After exhausting Google, vets and other kitty experts I decided, “why not, Jackson Galaxy seems to get things done when others have failed”, and so began my search for a cat behaviorist.  Thankfully Marci is MUCH closer than Mr. Galaxy, and a heck of a lot more flexible and convenient. 😉

Marci suggested that Horus (being a young cat, and quite masculine – despite being neutered!) was showing signs of territorial behaviors.  I had been walking Horus on his leash around my complex (apartments gone to condos) and that was one of the first things to go.  Clearly there are other cats around, and that is what he most likely was reacting too.  Not only was the yowling at night becoming unbearable, but he was also having accidents near the front door (and yet the litter box is 2 feet from there!).  In addition to her other recommendations, Marci also suggested clicker training (which is something I was already working on) to help stimulate him whilst the walks were taken away.  He also is a high energy little guy, so play time is crucial in his winding down at night.

We went out, pretty much right after Marci left, and started working on implementing her recommendations.  THAT NIGHT, he was already better.  I slept for the first time since I had brought him home almost an entire night!!!  Now I know what it’s like for first time parents, lol.  We have been playing with him daily, and his tricks are coming along nicely!  We have come, sit, and twirl almost down to a science!  I’m now working on ‘fetch’. We shall see 😉

Again, I can’t say enough good things about Marci and Feline Behavior Solutions!!!  I finally have the cat I’ve wanted and knew he could be.  He melted my heart at the adoption place when he came up to me and flopped and showed me his belly, now I can only imagine how much more love he and I will share for the rest of his life with me. 🙂

I learned so much from Marci about [the cats’] needs and as a result have made improvements that have benefited both of my felines. We’re all very grateful for Marci’s expertise!

BessieMarci is a miracle worker! My cat Bessie had been peeing on the floor for 2 years, and I had tried many approaches, none of them very successful. After consulting with Marci, I implemented the changes she suggested – all very simple – and within a few days Bessie was using the box again, which she has continued to do consistently. I thought I knew a lot about cats, having lived with them for most of my 48 years. But I learned so much from Marci about their needs and as a result have made improvements that have benefited both of my felines. We’re all very grateful for Marci’s expertise!

Marci is a personable and patient cat behaviorist who truly helped me find ways to resolve the behavioral problems with my kitties.  She was continually supportive and gave me an infinite amount of resources and guidance weekly, which I could not have done it on my own.

Camp KittiesMy young kitties began to bully my older kitty [Dexter] and did not allow him to use the litter box nor move freely about the house.  The situation escalated out of my control and into an unhealthy environment for my older kitty where he no longer used the litter box and he stayed hidden daily downstairs in a box.  Ultimately, I began to separate the kitties regularly to help my older kitty move about the house.  Initially, I sought out resources and completed research and then attempted to resolve the behavioral problem on my own. However it proved unsuccessful, so I reached to out to cat behaviorist Marci Koski for her assistance and guidance.

Although the situation is not completely resolved at this point, Marci came into my home and spent a great deal of time with me on the first consultation. On this first consultation, we sat down afterwards and she gave me suggestions and directions on how to immediately start to make positive changes for all the kitties.   Thereafter, Marci made weekly suggestions to troubleshoot different incidences.   She was a true support person in helping me to improve the situation.

Ultimately, Marci gave me the tools to create more structure in the home for the kitties that has helped them find more space for themselves. For example, more structured play times, scent swapping, rewards for good behavior, distraction devices and practices for the young ones, relocation of litter boxes into more open and safe spaces for the older kitty, and so much more.  These changes have helped all the kitties to start to get along more frequently with less bullying on the older kitty.  The older kitty has gained self-confidence and now he uses the litter box and moves about the house more regularly.  The younger kitties have started to become more independent and have started to build back their relationship again with the older kitty.

Marci is a personable and patient cat behaviorist who truly helped me find ways to resolve the behavioral problems with my kitties.  She was continually supportive and gave me an infinite amount of resources and guidance weekly, which I could not have done it on my own.  She has given the tools and knowledge to continue to improve both my kitties and home environment into the future.  I am grateful to her for dedication, knowledge, and support that has given me over the past two months.

Thanks Marci, for all you’ve done for us and for Tom, we’ve learned a lot over the past two months and we know he’s only going to get better.

TomAfter we realized Tom was not going to be a “normal” cat and still very scared we decided to look around on the Web, we found Marci and I liked her credentials.

Tom trusts us more, we still have a lot of work to do with him but the results have been very significant. Big change in his shyness. He’s always coming out and very vocal.

Marci is very knowledgeable about the subject, she’s been working with wildlife, has a doctorates in animal behavior, we really liked that. She has used her knowledge on her own cats and it has worked.

Thanks Marci, for all you’ve done for us and for Tom, we’ve learned a lot over the past two months and we know he’s only going to get better. We cannot thank you enough we probably would still be trying to get him to let us pet him if it wasn’t for your help.

Marci helped me to better understand the needs of my cat. She offered me advice and tools to help better the situation. It’s only been a couple of days since we spoke, but I already see changes in Oreo by using the knowledge she gave me.

Oreo MondaysAs a cat owner, I feel it’s important for me to share issues and problems I experience with my own cats with those of you who follow us. Not only may sharing our troubles help you, but your stories and experiences may also help us! Over the holidays we started experiencing some behavioral issues with Oreo. He began this nightly ritual of waking me up at all hours of the night for food. Sometimes beginning as early as midnight and lasting throughout the night until the next morning. Oreo’s ritual consists of what I call “ringing the dinner bell”, which in plain terms is basically scratching on objects close by, like my bedside table, or the base of the bed itself. After the scratching, he proceeds to jump on my head to get me up. It got so bad that I wound up exhausted throughout most of the holidays and still need to catch up on sleep. As a result of having little to no sleep I became impatient, my creativity suffered and I also wound up with the flu.

I tried everything to make the routine stop. Things like closing the bedroom door may have kept Oreo from jumping on my head, but in return he’d make more noise outside the closed door that it would keep my husband up as well. Inevitably, I just wound up getting up each time and gave in to feeding Oreo in the middle of the night. After a couple weeks of this, and running on little to no sleep, I was at a complete loss and so I decided to contact Dr. Marci Koski, a trained cat behaviorist and owner of Feline Behavior Solutions. Marci took an appointment with me over the phone to discuss the issue and see what options I had. After a long conversation, she helped me to better understand the needs of my cat. She offered me advice and tools to help better the situation. It’s only been a couple of days since we spoke, but I already see changes in Oreo by using the knowledge she gave me.

I want to thank Dr. Marci Koski for taking the time to speak with me and help Oreo and I to get through this problem. I know with time, things will be much better and I will once again be able to sleep though the night.

If anyone is looking for some advice for any behavioral problems you are experiencing with your cat(s), I suggest you contact Dr. Marci Koski. She is warm, attentive and really cares about the well-being of the cat as well as the owner.

What really impressed us was how Marci related her suggestions to our specific needs and our housing situation, and gave us alternative suggestions that led to a successful conclusion.  And, we highly recommend her professional feline behavior services.

Jasper and ZachWe adopted two previously stray cats in the summer/fall of 2008.  One was about 2 ½ years old and the other approximately 3 months old, both are now neutered males and had been “pals” before joining our family.  Since they came to live with us they’ve played and slept together, seeking out one another most of the time.  The younger one was/is semi-feral while the older one showed definite signs of having lived in a “family” atmosphere.  They have been great companions for each other.

Then unexpectedly on August 12, 2016, following their normal racing through the house/rough house play, the older cat suddenly got extremely aggressive and threatening to the younger one, so much so that we feared that harm would be forthcoming.  We immediately separated them and called our vet for some suggestions.  The advice was to keep them separated, but nothing much more specific than that.

In discussing the situation with our daughter she suggested checking with a professional feline behaviorist and put us in touch with Marci Koski.  Marci immediately called us and we set up a time for her to come and assess the situation.  She spent a great deal of time with us in our home and with our input she devised a game plan, noting that there was no easy, or simple solution and that we would need to be patient and consistent in how we carried out the agreed upon approach.  She willingly spent a follow-up session in our home during the process to further refine the game plan.

This approach involved, while they remained separated from one another, “scent transfer”, the use of food, play time (“Da Bird” was a great play tool), and gradual visual reintroduction.  It took time, persistence, consistency, and love – and, IT WORKED!  We and our “boys” are extremely pleased with Marci’s help, suggestions and encouragement.

What really impressed us was how Marci related her suggestions to our specific needs and our housing situation, and gave us alternative suggestions that led to a successful conclusion.  And, we highly recommend her professional feline behavior services.

Marci had very good follow up with us, was prompt, professional and very worth the investment! We don’t know what we would have done without her!

IMG_0608We sought out Marci’s assistance after moving and we joined two households, one with two 16 year old man cats and a 7 month old kitten! Boy, they did not know what to do with each other. We started having spraying issues, severe urination outside of the box and fighting. For the first time we were hating coming home due to all the cat problems and just not enjoying these wonderful fur babies anymore. Marci came in and saved the day!

She did a very detailed assessment and then gave us specific tasks to make the transition better. We were skeptical as we are very experienced with cats and thought we had tried EVERYTHING! We were wrong. By taking Marci’s advice and doing the work, changing it up as needed, and then staying consistent with her suggestions we now have a happy cat home! The spraying stopped completely! The accidents outside of the box are much less – what’s left is because of old cat health problems. The fighting has decreased HUGELY and they now even cuddle together at times!

Marci had very good follow up with us, was prompt, professional and very worth the investment! We don’t know what we would have done without her!

I knew Marci was the right person.  She was willing to come to my house and see the cats and their environment.  She spent time with each cat and took pictures of them.  She took her time and expressed her thoughts easily and was easy to understand.

I decided to reach out to Marci for two reasons:  The vet recommended it and I had no idea what else to do.  We have three cats in our house.  One (Daisy) is perfectly fine (just has attitude).  The second (Blizzy) has obvious health problems with no cure from vet.  The third (Franky) started acting very strange.  First, he urinated on my son’s bed twice and family room floor.  I took him to the vet to make sure he was healthy and he was.  Then Franky spent about 3-4 weeks just hanging out in the garage.  When we finally coaxed him back into the house, he was urinating on two chairs.  I was afraid to get rid of the chairs because then he would urinate somewhere else (besides the litter box).  The chairs were disgusting and the house was smelling terrible and I couldn’t invite anyone over!  So I reached out to Marci to get some help.

After Marci spent some time at my house, she had several recommendations for us.  She told us verbally and emailed us, as well as making a summary sheet which was easy to follow.  She even had product names and places we could order the product.  Thank goodness, the first thing Marci said was that the chairs had to go.  Then she wanted us to add litter boxes to a couple of areas in the house and to get a big one.  To replace the chairs, she recommended getting a low coffee table and putting cushions on it and a blanket to make it a cozy place for the cats (Franky and Blizzy).  Marci felt that Franky was stressed over Blizzy’s illness – Blizzy was also missing the litterbox, spilling food and falling off furniture.

All the suggestions worked beautifully.  I bought a black light (recommended) so I could locate the spots where the cats had urinated,  the right cleaner to clean the floors and eliminate odor.   I got rid of the chairs and made a comfy new area and also picked up 2 more litter boxes, one being very big.   Right away Franky used the new sleeping area and the new litter boxes.  Marci continued to offer suggestions to help Blizzy also.

I knew Marci was the right person.  She was willing to come to my house and see the cats and their environment.  She spent time with each cat and took pictures of them.  She took her time and expressed her thoughts easily and was easy to understand.  I am so grateful to Marci because we love our cats but I was getting frustrated over what was happening to my house.  I have happy cats now and I’m happy because my house smells better and I can have people over again. Marci also was caring enough to send a couple of follow-up emails.  She truly cares.  I cannot thank her enough!

…With Marci’s instructions, I have the knowledge to deal with changes as they come. Things are quite a challenge here and Marci met the challenge.

Larry&BlackyThe Alley Cat Sanctuary that is my Home:  A little background – I have living with me a large group of cats (11).  I did not search these cats out, all but two have come to me via various avenues,  i.e., they were neglected, abandoned, or abused and they came from the neighborhood showing up at my door (must be some sign cats can smell).  Most of the cats got along most of the time until recently when a couple of the cats, Larry and Blacky, started misbehaving. Blacky did not like Larry and would stalk him at times, creating a stressful environment, which in turn upset some of the other cats causing some to go outside the litterbox and to spray all over. I would be cleaning constantly to keep up.  Then I went on vacation and they really misbehaved, peeing and pooping on the kitchen floor and counters, and my pet sitter quit on me! So I made an appointment with Marci to see if I could get a handle on this and get them back to co-existing – quite the challenge for sure with so many.

So I filled out the known history for each cat (whew! It took forever with 11 cats!). Armed with this Marci came over and spent almost two hours going over the layout of the house and meeting each cat, making a few recommendation at the time, then went home and wrote up an action plan explaining some changes to make and some interactions to do with the cats, and explaining the why behind the changes as I am one of those that needs the why to make it work. Blacky and Larry are back to co-existing; not best buddies, but not fighting either – I’ll take it!  The pee and pooping on the floor and counter has stopped; I still have some spraying, but with 7 guys competing for territory in my house that is to be expected some; you know how guys can be, it’s the same across species always competing 🙂

Also Taz, a little boy I found under a bush starving as a kitten, never really knew how to play (he has issues due to his bad start in life), but since he has been watching the others as I spend time doing the play and prey sequence with them per Marci’s instructions, he has started to learn. He has also learned how to hunt from this sort of – he caught his first mouse the other day in the back yard and was quite proud of himself, but didn’t quite know what to do with it after catching it, so he let it go in the house! (Poor mouse you can guess what happened to him in a house full of cats!)

Things are still a work in progress with so many the dynamics constantly changing, but with Marci’s instructions I have the knowledge to deal with changes as they come. Things are quite a challenge here and Marci met the challenge.

Marci is a pro, and you can see her passion for her work. Her demeanor and sense of calmness was evident immediately when she stepped into my home, and Marci’s ability to coax a shy cat into interacting with her on a first visit was truly amazing!

IMG_4826After several vet visits, clearing up a bladder infection, and still having litter box issues, I decided it was time to look at a behaviorist. A friend had seen an article about Feline Behavior Solutions in The Columbian, and I decided to contact Marci. I set up an appointment with Marci, filled out her detailed questionnaire, and she came to my house to meet Scooter.

After discussing Scooter’s history and current issues, Marci developed a behavior plan based on what she observed. I immediately put her suggestions into action, and within 30 days Scooter’s litterbox habits had returned to normal.

Marci is a pro, and you can see her passion for her work. Her demeanor and sense of calmness was evident immediately when she stepped into my home, and Marci’s ability to coax a shy cat into interacting with her on a first visit was truly amazing! Her behavior plan was thorough and easy to follow, which definitely generated success in Scooter’s rehabilitation.  Don’t hesitate to contact Feline Behavior Solutions if you are experiencing behavioral issues with your favorite feline–there won’t be any regrets with the service this great lady provides!

We sent Marci an SOS, and she was wonderfully responsive. Marci took a careful history, visited with the cats, provided us with a detailed plan about how to turn things around, and followed up multiple times to check on their progress.

IMG_4794We adopted two unrelated adult cats in quick succession and were quite concerned when the first, who arrived about two months before her stepsister, began to bully the more recent arrival. We were especially concerned because both cats have special needs and we had seen how detrimental stress could be to the cats’ health.

We sent Marci an SOS, and she was wonderfully responsive. Marci took a careful history, visited with the cats, provided us with a detailed plan about how to turn things around, and followed up multiple times to check on their progress.

She emphasized the importance of structured playtime with indoor kitties, and she introduced us to some great toys that they love. She also introduced us to Feliway and catification, and gave us a few pieces of advice about what not to do.

Our cats have good days and bad days, but they are better able to share their space. In fact, they both have slept in the bed together, a hotly contested area of the house, without incident. That’s great progress!

We highly recommend Marci for dealing with cats’ behavior problems. Her advice is specific and practical.

Marci showed patience, compassion and insight during her visit and in all our communications during the month. In her work she manifests a deep love and respect for cats, together with extensive knowledge of, and expertise in, feline behavior.  She brings both intellect and heart to all she does for our furry friends and their humans.  She has my highest recommendation.

Debra's KittiesI attended one of Marci’s classes (“Litterbox Purrvana”) and was impressed by the breadth and depth of her knowledge about cat behavior.  I asked her for a Happy Cat Happy Home consultation because:

1. My little gray tabby Sona routinely urinates outside the litter box and several extensive vet exams and diagnostics provided strong evidence it is not the result of a medical issue. So I wanted Marci to help me figure out why–from time to time–he pees on the sofa, in cardboard boxes, and on any clothing or linens left on the floor.

2. My big black cat Onyx, now a senior, acts grumpy toward Sona at times, vocalizing loudly at him, cornering him, and even occasionally pouncing on him, which elicits much outraged growling from Sona.  I asked Marci to look around at the kitties’ overall environment and special hangouts, so that she could suggest ways I might improve and enrich both their surroundings and my play interactions with them, reducing their boredom and stress level and making them happier in general.

3. I am planning to introduce a new cat into my household, and sought Marci’s advice on where and how to segregate the cat initially and how best to introduce him gradually to the other kitties.

Marci came through spectacularly on all three issues.  I’m a veteran cat-owner and have educated myself about many aspects of their care, and was delighted that Marci provided me new and very helpful information that is based on sound scientific research.  After her home visit she wrote a very thorough report on everything we discussed and included many useful links to some excellent resources.  The report has become my go-to source of insight and guidance on the three concerns I brought to her.

Marci showed patience, compassion and insight during her visit and in all our communications during the following month. In her work she manifests a deep love and respect for cats, together with extensive knowledge of, and expertise in, feline behavior.  She brings both intellect and heart to all she does for our furry friends and their humans.  She has my highest recommendation.

I cannot say enough nice things about the Paws-On Training I received from Marci. This is someone who truly cares about what they do.

DashWhere do I even start with my cat problems?  Probably what most of you say when you have a hellish feline companion whose behavior dictates how you live your everyday life?  I had this problem.

My cat, Dash, had some ridiculous behavior and attitude problems. From the destructive scratching, to attacking myself and guests. Dash, currently 6 years old, is a Flame Point Siamese. Which I have been told, are normally temperamental. In fact, when I tried to get help from trainers in the past, they all just said this is how the cat is going to act because of his breed. Now because of this information I just changed the way I live and do everyday tasks. For example, I have to be careful where I leave open containers, or lay down cloths. Because Dash will destroy them within seconds of my choice to place common objects within his reach. Holes in bed sheets, scars on my hands and feet from trying to give affection. I was living with a monster who I feel only kept me alive because I could operate a can opener…

Enter Marci…

Marci heard of my troubles through mutual friends who were also as afraid as I was to even look at Dash wrong. With the fear that he may strike at any moment simply because you wore something he didn’t like. I chatted with Marci back and forth a bit, expecting to hear the same useless tips that the trainers before her gave me. But that did not happen… She listened, and accepted the challenge to meet with Dash. My greatest fear that Dash may kill one of my guests was now a possibility…

Cut to the day Marci arrived.  I greeted Marci at the door. Within seconds of her entering my house, Dash was up to his normal aggressive behavior. Marci attempted to greet the furry demon, and of course as expected, Dash greeted her back with a quick paw swipe to her hand. At this point I was sweating bullets. We got into an open area of the house where we talked a lot more about Dash and his behavior. And honestly, I expected simple answers that I could have found on the internet like anyone else. But I was wrong.

Marci definitely went the extra mile, showing me steps to improve Dash’s behavior over time, and even tools and toys that were incredibly effective. At the end of the “paws-on” training session, I was given a list of instructions to perform to improve Dash.

Marci has an abundance of knowledge on cats with behavior issues. I was absolutely blown away by the answers I received. And no, of course I am not going to talk about what she said. You will need to hire her for yourself and see. It took about 4 weeks of doing what Marci instructed to get a routine going for Dash. I followed everything she wrote down, and Marci even checked in often to see how things were progressing.

Dash is now a completely different cat. He no longer lashes out at me or my guests, he no longer wakes me up in the middle of the night just because he wants food or attention. It’s super impressive that someone actually took the time to know and understand my cat, and developed a plan to curve his attitude to something that was pleasant and more friendly pet like.

I will continue to perform the steps Marci made for Dash and I. As even today, his behavior is improving. I cannot say enough nice things about the Paws-On Training I received from Marci. This is someone who truly cares about what they do. If you have a cat with behavior issues, do yourself a favor and reach out to Marci.

Thank you Marci, I hope more will benefit from your experience and knowledge as I have.

A very satisfied customer,
— David Kaulitz

Marci did an awesome job in helping us resolve our issues.  We were on the verge of having to give up one of our cats, but now everything is nice and peaceful.

Marci isn’t magic; she simply understands cats and people.

IMG_0257I have a 13 year old male named Taz.  He’s been the ruler of the roost his whole life.  I wanted to get him some company after his sister and aunt died, so I adopted a rescue cat.  Bandit is a 7 year old male, polydactyl with a slightly crippled front leg.  I’d never tried to integrate two adults before.  So I turned to Marci.

She helped me understand what was happening with each of the different animals, and advised patience, above all.  We worked out techniques and established routines.  One of the most important adjustments was mine:  have reasonable expectations.  And remember, they’re cats, not children!

I’m a cat person, and I’m patient.  And with Marci’s help, I now have two very different cats, sharing my house with me, and bringing me joy.
